Fourth in a series of demo creation, tagged how to's.
RJ 86 demonstrates how a great drum and bass rhythm can get wasted with overly fuzzy guitars.
I still sorta like it but I don't think it'll be more than demo in it's current state.
The bass made me go back to my skateboarding winters in Arizona with my bro RJ.
You could download it if you really get stoked on it.

programmed to run at a certain point.
An entire E.P. delivered, received, recorded,
produced and delivered
-within a short few hours.
Total freshness and confidence in the rising Lord.
Creed brought, the heaviness of our days, particularly with relationships
(and potentially aging).
Edward brought the anticipation of great things from God,
and a lack of focus of the days troubles (all the whole taking stock of the next moments).
Creed showed up at about 16:13:52 on 12/27/11
I will now click save, its 18:51:13

Creed brought, the heaviness of our days, particularly with relationships

He did this from behind the 322 house kit, iconically mic'd.
Edward brought the anticipation of great things from God,
and a lack of focus of the days troubles (all the whole taking stock of the next moments).
I did this from midi-sequencing, synth-looping, sampled-percussion-pads.
And then I did production, getting to you here now.

this is how we do it (part 3)
Here we are with the third howto, this is still demo but how it was made so far was:
Foundation laid with a very pinback bassline, followed by layers of MPC drums
and concluded with pre-written Ramone-ish lyrics of happy dependence on God.
That's not a synth from 1:45 on, that's a modulated p-bass.

First day of winter, 2011
.... This is nice.
I can see such a progression from where I was a year ago, although I still totally like that stuff.
It was like I just discovered sampling.
Then when you look back to this date in 2009, wow... development.
There was always a tune, always something there, but its just getting more defined and growing. ... Not to mention, our first winter, 2008.
God is good!
Thanks for your love of the older stuff.

session 3
On 12/3/11 Alan, Creed and I had our last session before Creed moved.
Alan loved the set in it's entirety enough to mention it weeks later.
It hasn't even completely picked over yet, but nyet from ACHTUNG can be heard in this set.
Alan's trademark beats can be heard powering thru the playful experimentation.
Creed's shoegazing bass cannons in and out, not believing, believing, understanding.
This was the third session that day at 322, the rays were drenched with our sonic.
This bud's for you.

bitter winter
So, this could be a part III of the how-to's...
I basically took the little depressive mix produced at FTC this afternoon
- added some more synth, thickened up the back end..
whala.
Music to end your miser to.

this is how we do it (part 2)
... in this howto I'll show how my typical mixes work.
So far this one is titled bitter winter.
I rarely directly state source in title (or this would be Cruel Summer role remix)... this is because of several reasons:
Sorry for all the explicits, I'm really bummed right now.
My working poor reality is not working and I'm sober and have probably been logged out for too lunch too long.
Enjoy the hypnotic sadness.

ICE & SNO - BRO
We'll get back to the process, but (here's a teaser for the new production's direction?)
this is how we do it (part 1)
Many thanks to the boys and girls who have enjoyed LOSERS, that stats are blowing up - Glory to God!
On to another project.
I will now walk you thru the process.
The drums on this demo (Brothers) are solid Eastern European bloc, via France.
You could hear the last traces of cold war winters, as Parisians diplomats and old money royalty meet.
The bass is all surfer, Los Angeles county. Carefree student loan money well spent.
The next layers should be later this evening.
Just thought it would be cool for you to hear the process.

The beginning
I'm super stoked to share with you this completed body of work; entitled, The beginning.
It's a complete solo work, all electronic and was made during late September thru early November 2011.
The rhythms are ionized sonic measures of manic, hopeful, depressive and and back to hopefulness While waiting on the Lord. It yielded several soundclouds and Official.FM releases; online purchases of the complete body will include unreleased material.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CREED SEWELL!
Here is another track from the AMAZING 10/28/11 session at 322
Creed's modular bass work is a cannon between Alan's hi-hat and kick and Edward's curious synth-work.
Little production work went into this, we let the live recording speak for itself.
Yesterday's marathon of hours to get PRAIA DO FRANCĂS right (is it right? I don't think so, you tell me.) reminded me that 10/28/11 was this trio's first session of the session and found them in perfect improvisational form.
Enjoy and tell your friends, there's good loving at mid-night.
submerged by @85lives
The chosen artwork is from my friend from back in Yuma, Patricia Humphrey (from her FB).
She's the one in the middle.
During my Freshmen year registration, she was in line with me (she was a grade or two ahead of me), she had a pin on her bag, it said why be normal, I was instantly attracted.
I spent the rest of my years in HS trying to be part of her cool crew, but I was always the dejected skate punk from whose family went to the crazy church.
Enjoy your day Creed.

PRAIA DO FRANCĂS
I pretty much worked on this all day, I couldn't get the vocals right; either too
contrived, stiff or off-step.
I thickened up the tracks but made some mud so I had to strip them back down again.
I'm not sure if I'm completely loving it yet, I see the angles and like those but
I also have ideas that I just haven't been able express sonically yet.
I suppose that's a good thing.
From Psalm 29, 1 - 4.
From the 10/28 session at 322
Featuring
Alan on drums
Creed on bass
Edward on synth/vocals/production

Ascribe to the LORD, you heavenly beings,
ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name;
worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.
The voice of the LORD is over the waters;
the God of glory thunders,

let it go already
First track from a new collection; The beginning
let it go already by @85lives
The lyrics are flawless
let it go already by @85lives
The lyrics are flawless
Psalm 25
1 In you, LORD my God,
I put my trust.2 I trust in you;
do not let me be put to shame,
nor let my enemies triumph over me.
3 No one who hopes in you
will ever be put to shame,
but shame will come on those
who are treacherous without cause.4 Show me your ways, LORD,
teach me your paths.
5 Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
6 Remember, LORD, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
7 Do not remember the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you, LORD, are good.8 Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
9 He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way

From 322 on 10/23/11 after dropping the kids off.
Sort of a declaration about band status/social arrangements.
I WANT other players - you/they just have to be willing to work min. 3x a week.
Too focused to go back to the distracted and hobbyist.
Electronics don't require any riff/raff, just focus and flow.

duplex
sippin' Tanqueray from England and working on last night's duplex and it's tumblr debut.
total cricket's right? No Worries. That won't last. Soon enough, this will take off.
This track was foundationally recorded on 6/22/11 with Ted laying down the synth and Creed on drums. I thicked it all up in production on 6/24 (like just after midnight).

we had fun
The bandcamp says
The primary track was recorded at Creed's Space; exported as Ed's Mixxxxx.
Creed ProTooled an MPC beat and I played bass and guitar.
I took it to 322, thickened the beat, added some Twin surf guitar and the vocals.
lyrics? Cold weather sucks.
I miss summer.

patchy mornings in the fall
always a way (for Thurston & Kim Moore) album and band name
This is for Kim and Thruston, so don't want to see them get divorced.
They have been such an iconic couple to us, pray with me that something happens within their hearts and they go from separated to back together, we need some positive examples - divorce is never rarely a good thing!

An astute observation/contemplate the grey
I did this at lunch (FTC= from the cube).
I'm so spent right now.
contemplate the grey was the one from tonight with the new synth. I reworked it tons but I still couldn't get the drums and bass the way I wanted.
I'm so spent right now.
It really (could have used)needed Creed on bass but he's all I got my own space now so; I had to do all the pieces.
Not the first time.
I find myself moving more and more into electronics for that very reason, you can do it by yourself.
I spent years pining for consistent players, but none have really stuck (except Alan pretty much).
I'm so spent right now.
I think it's my determination to grow and play not confirm to a routine sound, and all that that entails that has made it difficult to maintain folks.
I like to keep trying new things. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't.
Creed, if you read this, know this is not about me, it's about the sound.
You're little room may be a cool idea, and we could try, even though it seems redundant.
Let'skeep working together.
322 has room and more instruments.
Next time you're hear I want you to bring headphones or wear mine to be sure you can hear your bass.
Good night friends.

The Intruders
... on with another collection, who knows what this will yield, only God!
I can say the first track, longing is super drum heavy and has a certain ancient thump to it.
